| The Shoreline Station Shopping Center was built in 1978, and was the main shopping center- strip mall in Half Moon Bay, Ca., up until the late 1990s. At that time, the Strawflower Center was expanding, and many of the tenants of Shoreline Station moved to that location. Today, the only original tenant from the early days of the center is Michael A. Wong's Spring Mountain Gallery, which has been there since 1980. During its heyday, Shoreline Station was bustling with activity on a daily basis. The center was often referred to as "Shoreline Station Shopping Village", and had a wide variety of stores and services. Activities Every year, there were visits from the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and other special events and festivities. There was a tenant's association, and Linda Goetz and Rosemary Benda had Christmas parties every year for the small busines owners there. Shopping included a woodworking shop, Classic Fashions, Horn's Outdoor & Gun Shop, Sun Ray Shoe Shop, Coastside Toys & Hobbies, Bay Video Center, Bay Book and Tobacco, Marilyn Thompson Interiors, Half Moon Bay Wood Stoves (Dave Thompson, Proprietor), Hairmasters, Pumpkin Patch Hallmark, a Children's Clothing store, a gift shop, an antique shop, and Discount King. Restaurants included Aquarius Restaurant, a steakhouse, the German Bakery (with head baker Thomas Grauke, who later moved to Main street with his own restaurant, Moonside Bakery), and Shoreline Sandwich & Deli (a.k.a. "Ma's) Services included the Medical Center, Victor M. Cox, Founders Title Co., I.M. Cal., Inc., Pat Bennie & Paula Russ, Akio Inouye (CPA), Applied Roofing Technology, Wellings, Fowler & Baldwin, George Fowler (CPA), Attorney At Law, Dr. Andrew Chigos, M.D. Inc., O.B.G.Y.N., Half Moon Bay Photo Center (with Jess Miller & Janet Ragsdale), Spring Mountain Gallery (Michael A Wong Photgrapher & Custom Framer), Stephen Martin Therapist, Taffae Eleanor, Family Counselor, DR. Jacobs (Pediatrician), Planned Parenthood, Lester Gorsline, Timothy Whelan, M.D., All Stress Management, Coast Lines Secretarial, ASI Computer, a Brass Shop (Greg Hampton Proprietor), two publishing companies (one run by Jim Beale), Sunflower Optical, with Dr. Goumas, M.D., Coastal Tax & Business Services with Sandra A Yount, Applied Power Electronic Imprinting, with Glenn & Judy Lewis, a gym, and Canyon Realty. Interesting Facts In the early 1980s, Tom Hisata, an architectural designer from Palo Alto, bought the complex. His most valuable contribution during his ownership was to have the buildings retrofitted, so that when the Loma Prieta earthquake occurred, the buildings stood firm. |
