2006 Moto GP & Monterey Trip

July 19-23, 2006
Our weekend started on Friday, July 19th.  The weather was already warming up (understatement), but we had no idea that we would be sweltering most of the time in Monterey, with the temperature ashigh as 105 degrees, especially at the track.  In spite of that, we had a great time.  Nicky Hayden won again, it's getting to be a theme.  We enjoyed our stay at a friend's place in downtown Monterey, took a ride on a sightseeing boat (saw dolphins and sea lions, among other critters), watched: "An Inconvenient Truth" (talk about heat & Global Warming! I urge everyone to see this film) at the little theater right under where we were staying, and did some other sightseeing.  We had to take busses from where we parked at CSU, which is about 7 miles from Laguna Seca, into & out of the racetrack, which was a new system.

At the races, Michael got the thrill of meeting with
Wayne Rainey & Eddie Lawson (I took a pic of them, as Michael was telling them: "And that's my wife, Deb!", so Rainey waved in my direction), Jeff Emig, Scott Russell, Randy Mamola, & Jamie James, among others.  Russel made a face, they were all great.  That was worth the long hot trek down to the Yamaha tent.  Rainey & Lawson also signed Michael's baseball cap, pretty cool.   We sat with Lorna & Kevin, Kaitlyn & Aris, plus the "Usual Suspects": Dave Thomson, Bill Bradfied, & Tony.
